Menstrual Monday: The Beautiful Cervix Project

Have you heard of the beautiful cervix project? It is a wonderful, amazing initiative celebrating menstrual cycles and the body.

“The Beautiful Cervix Project encourages women to learn cervical self-exam and fertility awareness as a revolutionary path of promoting respect, confidence, and health.  We believe that this form of self-empowerment and education will help contradict shame and misinformation around women’s reproductive health and choices, affecting positive change from the personal to global levels.” Sounds great, right?

The website is an amazing tool if you’d like to look and see what a cervix looks like in general through all stages of your cycle or you can learn how to see your own!

It is very empowering to be able to actually see for yourself what you look like, everyone is different and beautiful! It’s kind of silly to think that your doctor, midwife, or nurse gets to see your cervix and you don’t, it’s your body after all! By knowing more about your own body, you are more able to see what’s normal and what’s not for you, and foster a better relationship with your body and your cycles. If you’re not quite ready to check out your cervix, why not just take a mirror and explore your vulva? Just take things one step at a time.

My Speculum

This website is so wonderful because it has created an amazing community to discuss all kinds of fertility issues. If you read some of the comments on the pictures, you’ll see what I mean. There is a lot of support on the website, which I love. It also provides a great space for learning in general.

Cool, right? So take a look at The Beautiful Cervix Project and let me know what you think. I was so inspired when I found this website some time ago, I bought a speculum and did a self exam and I’ve been doing them since. I hope the website inspires you too!
